The Derby Diva’s advocate any sort of skater. Even if the Roller Derby is not exactly your thing, but you like to skate, you may want to consider trying a Roller Derby Workout as part of your endurance training. Every person that roller skates should know the proper way to do a Roller Derby T-Stop. It is a simple way to slow down or stop completely. Simply drag your back skate perpendicular to the front skate. See how easy? and pretty effective on the street, ice or on the circular track.
Another fun think to do at the Roller Rink is to practice building up your legs and endurance doing some Roller Derby Drills. My favorite is called threading the snake. This is a great Roller Derby Drill that is more for the jammers then anyone else, but even leisure skaters can have fun with this simple drill. All you need to do is line up and start skating single file, then when you get some speed the last skater will start to weave in and out between the other skaters, when that skater is in front the next one at the end goes. It is really fun but I warn you, it takes a lot of effort not to shove an elbow in someone back. But hey if you are really adventurous you can try a Roller Derby Drill called Blood and Thunder, the rules are simple, the last one standing wins. Visit The Derby Diva’s on Face book and share your favorite Roller Derby Skate Drills.

I have twitter too, I’ll add them. It’s good to hear that there are people reviving the idea of Roller skating as a workout, today it seemed just an outdated thing from the seventies and the eighties, it makes sense with the retro revival going on in fashion and in music.
If only I could get my friends to do a skate line with me, then I would be all set! Seriously, I don’t know why some people prefer jogging or walking over roller derby. Skating is so much more fun. This gave me an idea though, to maybe look for local teams in my area. Thanks for the article. I will definitely check out The Derby Divas on Facebook.
This work-out is not for me since I don’t like to do this kind of skating. I know that this work-out could be the difference between breaking and not breaking my body from doing the sport but I won’t even try that game so I don’t need this.
What I think is really wonderful is that in today’s keep fit or get fit world that sports and recreational activities are a big part about how we go about it. It makes exercising or being healthy much more fun and exciting.
As a starter, I would want to take Derby Diva’s suggestion on T-Stop. Probably this comes with practice. I should talk to my coach. Its not yet time for me to try the Derby Drills like Threading the snake or Blood and Thunder. Probably I will keep them for some other day in future.
I’ve just gotten back into skating too. I knew I needed something that would give me a good workout, but at the same something that is fun and that I am good at (or at least I think I am good at). I can’t believe I went so long without skating. I am addicted now.
I feel the same way! After getting started back, I have no idea why I went so long without skating. There is this stigma where skating is just for kids, but that’s so not true. I wish it would become more known and accepted that many adults love to skate just as much as kids!
Got the skates I bought last week and now trying to start skating. I never knew that there was something like a Roller Derby T-Stop .
After reading your blog I will get back on skates and try these T-Stop. Hopefully I am not landing on my back the next time I try to stop.
